Chandeliers

Chandeliers? Remember that episode of Only Fools and Horses when they drop a chandelier? If only they'd used a Guard.

Guard load arrestors are routinely deployed to protect high-value loads, including chandeliers. In this application, the Guard load arrestor would be anchored out of sight, in the space above the ceiling, if space is available. The Guard's cable can attach to the chandeliers; if the load was to fall for any reason, the Guard would automatically activate, catching the fall and stopping the valuable load hitting the floor or people below.

Where space is tight above the ceiling, pulleys may be used to redirect the Guard's cable. This allows the Guard to be anchored in a different spot to the chandelier's anchor point, whilst still providing an effective safeguard.

Because the Guard's cable automatically extends and retracts, following the movement of the load, the Guard's cable doesn't necessarily need to be disconnected if the chandelier is lowered for maintenance or cleaning. This would mean the safeguard is always in place and active, even when the chandelier is being moved.
